The Stug No. 3 Assault Gun G is the last improved model of the entire series, and it is also the largest volume of fully tracked armored combat vehicle produced by Germany in World War II, with a total of more than 7,800 units produced from December 1942 to March 1945. In a sense, this model is synonymous with assault guns. During its relatively long production cycle, the manufacturer introduced a variety of improvement measures, so that the performance of this model has been improved day by day, keeping it more in line with the needs of the troops.
From 1943 to 1945, assault guns were the unsung heroes of German defense, killing more than the Panther and Tiger tanks combined (20,000 in 1944 alone). They have been in service for a longer time as support tanks, but they have proven to be effective against light armored vehicles even with high explosive shells. Assault gun crews are artillerymen, but they consider themselves elite, and propaganda newsreels also reinforce this image. Because of its ease of use, the Wehrmacht used assault guns on every front, from the coasts of France and Norway to the Volga in the east, from the gates of Egypt to Africa in the mountains of Tunis, and it was also generously distributed to the allies of Germany.

三号突击炮G型是整个系列的最后一个改进型号，也是二战德国生产数目最大的一型全履带装甲战斗车辆，从1942年12月到1945年3月一共生产了7800余辆，是非常重要的机动火力支援力量，也是战争中后期突击炮营/旅和自行化反坦克部队的主力装备。某种意义上，这个车型就是突击炮的代名词。在其相对漫长的生产周期中，生产厂家引入了名目繁多的改进措施，令这个车型的性能日臻完善，更加符合部队的需求。
1943 年至 1945 年，突击炮是德国防御的无名英雄，击杀数比豹式坦克和虎式坦克加起来还多（仅 1944 年就击杀了 20,000 人）。它们作为支援坦克的服役时间更长，但事实证明，即使使用高爆弹，它们也能有效对抗轻型装甲车辆。突击炮乘员是炮兵，但他们认为自己是精英，宣传新闻片也强化了这一形象。由于方便使用，德国国防军在每一条战线上都使用了突击炮，从法国和挪威海岸到东部的伏尔加河，从埃及大门到突尼斯山的非洲，它也被慷慨地分发给德国的盟军。
